SNACK FAMILYJames Allsopp - Baritone saxophone, synths
Andrew Plummer - Baritone guitar, voice Tom Greenhalgh- Drums, backing vocals Working from the same filthy, hot coal room as The Birthday Party, Cpt Beefheart and Morphine - London-based three piece: SNACK FAMILY have been creating an unapologetic, driving sound since 2011. This is music that gets right back to the heartlands, the heart and soul and meat of the matter; music for the times we're sweating through. Snack Family formed to function as the main vehicle for collaborative music making between award winning Saxophonist James Allsopp and maverick vocalist and wordsmith Andrew Plummer in 2011 with Tom Greenhalgh as drummer. Exploring the unusual line-up of baritone saxophone, baritone guitar, voice and drums, Snack Family developed their own genre-defying musical language. Since augmenting the band with synths (which James often plays at the same time as saxophone) and backing vocals, Snack Family exploit their unusual line-up to startling effect, sounding very much greater than the sum of it’s parts. In 2013, Snack Family recorded with Nostalgia 77s acclaimed producer Ben Lamdin and ECM recording engineer Alex Bonney. These were mastered by grammy award winning Brian Lucey resulting in two EPs self released via Plummer’s digital label limited NOISE in 2014. The now sold out EPs ‘Belly’ and ‘Pokie Eye’ garnered much critical acclaim from press in the UK and EU. To support the release of each EP, Snack Family took part in short tours of the UK and subsequently have shared bills with the likes of Nissenenmondai, Gallon Drunk, Evil Blizzard, Cesarians, Hot Head Show, Cowtown, Peluche, Eagulls, Dead Rider, Get The Blessing and appeared at Wickerman, Threadfest, Match & Fuse and Larmer Tree festivals. In the Summer of 2016, Snack Family recorded their debut full length, 10 track album at Giant Wafer Studios in Wales with engineer Alex Bonney and later again mastered by Brian Lucey. The resultant album, ‘Bunny’, which features vocalist and composer Seaming To is due for release on Slowfoot Records on October 5th 2018 on 12” vinyl and all digital platforms. Brilliant emerging drummer, Will Glaser joined early 2018. In support of the ‘Bunny’ release, Snack Family are embarking on a 13 date UK tour later in the autumn. "Snack Family is a creeping Rock n Roll monster, replete with gravelly drumbeats, striptease guitars and the most gut-twisting Sax we've heard in yonks..Sleazier than Waits out on the pull with the Fat White clan..." NME "Snack Family's music oozes… An unlikely middle ground between Battles and The Birthday Party." The Quietus We have found the best experimental rock band that you will hear this week...We dare to say that these boys will grow into a highly respected act." - Noisey by Vice NL "In recent years, English rock bands have been fashionable in appearance and a manicured sound, so it’s very exciting to discover a group with a genuinely messed up sound.” - Les InRocks FR “As visceral and gritty as they come, this genre-bending trio lost in the Bermuda triangle of Rammstein, Queens Of The Stone Age and Eric Dolphy” - London Jazz |
