HELLO SKINNY"Skinny was born in a bathtub…"
Hello Skinny is the brainchild of in-demand drummer extraordinaire Tom Skinner, who's other current involvements include Sons Of Kemet, Mulatu Astatke, Matthew Herbert, Eska, Melt Yourself Down, The Grip and The Owiny Sigoma Band. Taking its cue from a song by The Residents, the project is Skinner's first as bandleader, composer and producer [playing most of the instruments] and sees him exploring areas around and between psych-dub, electronics, downtown/freak jazz and folk stylings. The debut album follows on from his widely spread 'Smash+Grab' mixtape and an array of remixes for the likes of The Owiny Sigoma Band, Seb Rochford and Jhest, Crewdson, and Saltwater Samurai, and features contributions from Shabaka Hutchings, Tom Herbert (of The Invisible), Byron Wallen, Trudie Dawn Smith and Nick Ramm. This was followed by an 12" EP 'Revolutions', which features two contrasting originals constructed with Shabaka Hutchings and Hugh Jones, and remixes of material from the album by Zero 7, Pete Wareham, Crewdson, Matthew Herbert and Bass Clef. Since then more remixes of his own have followed - Sons Of Kemet, The Grip, Kit Grill, Larry Gus and Soccer96. As a drummer Skinner has also performed and/or recorded with Zero 7, Byron Wallen's Indigo, Elmore Judd, Zed U, The Invisible, We Fell To Earth, Johnny Greenwood, Willy Mason, Lianne La Havas, Pete Wareham, Jason Yarde, 2 Banks of 4, Emiliana Torrini, Max De Wardener, Rachid Taha, Baba Maal, Damon Albarn, Mara Carlyle, Soweto Kinch, Denys Baptiste, Dani Siciliano and many more. His live band has been known to feature Shabaka Hutchings [reeds], Hugh Jones aka Crewdson [electronics], Nick Ramm [keys, bass], Chris Morphitis [guitar/bass] and Robert Stillman [saxophone]. |
