ROBERT LOGAN

Composer and producer Robert Logan was introduced to Slowfoot by producer Ivor Guest [Grace Jones, Brigitte Fontaine, Bomb The Bass], who, impressed by such an obvious talent, invited him to the studio to contribute beats and textures for Grace Jones' forthcoming album. They have since collaborated on a number of projects including Oscar and Emmy nominated soundtracks.

His first album ‘Cognessence’ [2007] prompted an array of rave reviews and support. Still only 19 at the time he was described as “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.” [BBC experimental]. Mary Anne Hobbs called his music “Absolutely outstanding… …impossible to quantify”, DJ Mag his album “The essential last word in electronic soundscapes”. A second album ‘Inscape’ [2009] and a clutch of EP’s garnered yet more praise and cemented his reputation as an artist with immense talent and one worth keeping a very close eye on in the future. A period followed to which Logan diverted his attention for a while to his blossoming career composing music for film and TV whilst continuing to contribute his much admired skills as a producer to projects with the likes of Grace Jones, Brigitte Fontaine, Skye [Morcheeba]and more recently John Grant, as heard on his recent album 'The Art Of The Lie'.

2015 saw him re-emerge under his own name with the dazzling new ‘Extasis EP’ and his third full length album ‘Flesh’ “…a musical object so radical and daring it seems not to belong to his time.” [Trax]. This was quickly followed by ‘Flesh Decomposed’ [2016], his 4th album a set of re-imaginings of material from 'Flesh',  which coincided with the release of two albums which are the fruits of his long term collaboration with ambient god-father Steve Roach [‘Biosonic’ and ‘Second Nature’].

He has also pursued a successful parallel career composing music for the screen, often alongside producer Ivor Guest, a long-term collaboration which has yielded a few Oscar and Grammy nominations along the way.  His most recent endeavours include ongoing collaboration with conceptual artist Kristina Buch for installations at the Akademie Der Künste, lecturing on the history of electronic music at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, and as composer for An Orange from Jaffa (winner of various awards, including the Grand Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival) and HBO's Agents of Chaos and a.k.a Mr. Chow.

Roll forward to 2025 and Logan has returned after a period that has been dominated by a series of health challenges  with a 24-track opus called 'Brutalist', a potent, labyrinthine experience, containing 24 tracks recorded and produced over a 13-year period.

His music is an intelligent fusion of influences from folk, medieval and classical to krautrock and electronica. He blends acoustic and electronic instruments and sound sources including voices and field recordings, and he has developed an intuitive and fluid use of digital production tools through which he squeezes, teases and shapes this material. His complex and restless rhythms carry an echo of his half Hungarian backround and its rich musical history. His production skills are edge of the seat, playful and asymmetrical - a powerful assimilation of recent trends that mellows with repeated listens to reveal a strong melodic instinct.
