Crackle

about

CRACKLE is an off-kilter collaboration between bass player Nick Doyne-Ditmas and drummer Frank Byng, that draws on their extensive experience as musicians and producers working across a wide range of traditions and practices, old and new.

Through a series of studio experiments and improvisations the duo set out to explore the frontiers between analog and digital, acoustic and electric, lo-fi and hi-fi, real and imaginary...
NICK DOYNE-DITMAS (bass) since working with acclaimed avant-jazzers Pinzki zoo in the mid 80's, has been a mainstay of the south london music scene for many years, collaborating many times with drummer Charles Hayward (my secret alphabet + where is chaos now sub rosa) and with artists/bands as diverse as H2C7, Charles Stuart, Skip Macdonald, and K-Scope. He is currently involved with Shape Moreton, Charles Hayward's first major group project since This Heat and Camberwell Now, and Monkey Puzzle Tree (featuring Charles Hayward and Viv Corringham).

FRANK BYNG (drums) -currently leading up afro-kraut collective Snorkel as well as filling the drum seat for Robert logan's and Charles Stuart's live bands, he also features as a producer/drummer on the Hostile Takeover EP with Spring Tides on the Blank Tapes label. His training included studying traditional music with members of the Pan-African Orchestra and Farafina in West Africa and jazz with legendary Sun Ra drummer Clifford Jarvis. He has previously worked with the likes of Barry Adamson, Ayub Ogada, Spectre/Mannasseh, and 1 Giant Leap.
